The only things I ask my students to remember from a Reiki class are these two: 1. This is a hand, this is a body, this is Reiki - hands-on, Reiki on, hands-off, Reiki off; and 2. To actually do the practice of Reiki - hands on themselves first.
Over the span of a few years, the handouts evolved into the Guide book - and covered the information that might be discussed in a typical class might be. I found I kept running out of time to tell all the stories that would illustrate different experiences in Reiki healing, and to still cover everything I really wanted to cover in the class.
So, rather than talk faster, I put most of the stories in this book, along with drawings of the hand positions and what they serve, so students could take the book home and refer to it if they felt so called. Or use it as a doorstop, as I always tell my students - it is not necessary to know anything in there to do their Reiki practice once they have attended the class.
I wrote the book between England and the United States, in between classes, each class getting a new Xeroxed version until it was actually printed! Several of my students and Candidates supported the process, without their efforts the book could not have been born. The Guidebook will be in its fourth edition this year, and still is one of the best fundamental books on the art of individual Reiki practice (in my opinion, of course!)
