LEARNING THE REIKI SYSTEM
Learning The Reiki System: Anyone can learn the Usui System of Natural Healing. The only prerequisites are openness and a desire to learn.
There are two practitioner levels:
Shoden: "To deal with and transmit the energy."
Shoden is the first level of training. You will learn everything you need to know about Reiki for the purposes of giving treatment to the self and others at this level. A Reiki class for the most part is not an intellectual learning process. It is a hands-on experience, and an opportunity to re-awaken one's own natural healing ability through the Reiki initiation process. This energy attunement occurs in four ceremonial acts shared by the Reiki Master with each student. A Reiki class is taught by a Master through his rite of empowerment, using the format of a formal treatment. There are four consecutive three-hour sessions.
In the first section, the history of Reiki is discussed, and the basic hand positions for self-healing are given and practiced. In the second section, the Reiki master will demonstrate the head positions, explaining what they serve both physically and Metaphysically. The students then practice, giving ad receiving Reiki in these positions under the caring supervision of the Master. In the same format the third section covers the chest and organs, and the fourth covers the back and the glands. Each student will have given and received a full treatment by the end of class. Initiations are shared once with each student in each section.
Oku Den: "Bringing in and transmitting the essence of the energy."
Oku den is the second level of training, and is available to the First Degree practitioner who wishes to deepen his or her experience and commitment to using Reiki in their lives. There is a minimum of 100 days between the First and Second Level trainings. The Second Degree class includes a deeper initiation by the Reiki Master, and instruction in the conscious use of ancient symbols to increase the flow of energy in treatments, to reach the subconscious mind, and to be able to send energy to someone not present in as focused a way as a physical treatment.
Do Shu: "Where a Way is Practiced."
Do Shu is the teaching level of Reiki. A Traditional Teaching Master of the Usui
System of Reiki is one who has been trained in the original traditions of Reiki
and whose personal and professional life is committed to this healing art and
the lifestyle that it engenders. A Traditional Teaching Master of Reiki is a member
of the Reiki Alliance - a collective of Reiki Masters dedicated to the original
traditions of the Usui System of Reiki .- and has been prepared to teach by an
elder Master who adheres to these traditions. For more information, or to check
on membership status, please contact The Reiki Alliance.
